Carl Jung famously said that that the greatest danger to mankind is the psyche. The proof is all around us, every day, for example, rampant violence committed against human beings and nature by individuals, groups, and nations. All kind of justifications and reasons are put forward for such destructive behaviour, but at the heart of it ... aside from the obvious demon of Greed ... are maladjustments of the psyche.
Egoism is often blamed for difficult, conflictive, nasty behaviour. Actually, as Jungian professor Stein explains in this talk, a weak, insecure, undeveloped ego is a major cause of aggressiveness and violence - mental or physical. Knowing that can help you understand your own negative emotions, or the hostility and hypersensitivity of others.
