"That which distinguished Jung's personality more than anything else, and which was especially conspicuous when face to face with him, was, in my opinion, his unqualified integrity and outspokenness-an honesty which stood firm even in those areas of conversation in which most people evade the issue in embarrassment and pseudo-tactful politeness. It is true that he also learned, through many disappointments, to shrug diplomatically and keep silent. But whenever he gave his respect or friendship to another person, he related to the other with such utter simplicity and truthfulness that the other was almost forced into awareness of the background darkness in himself.
